To New Hope Community Church:
After much conversation and prayer, have chosen to suspend our Sunday Morning worship gatherings for the next 2 Sundays. We do not make this choice lightly, for gathering together in worship and prayer proclaims God’s presence, centres us in love and not fear, and helps enliven faith, hope and love in us. Yet it is out of our love for you, your well-being, and our desire to productively support the efforts of the government in slowing the spread of the virus that we have made this decision. Moreover, we have a number of vulnerable persons (seniors) in our midst and we want to protect them as much as possible. We are monitoring the Toronto Public Health website and have taken into consideration how other churches are managing public gatherings, including other UB churches. Though we will not be meeting together as we usually do at 48 Bloem Ave, we encourage you to worship at home through online or TV resources.
We know that the fear over this virus is real and valid. We believe that the greatest motivator is love and not fear. Therefore, while being wise and intentional, we will continue to trust in our God of love and will continue to love and care for one another through this time of fear and the unknown.
We also recognize that isolation can be difficult and lonely. It is important and necessary that no one feels alone and so we encourage you to reach out to others. For those of you who are in self quarantine and need assistance (groceries, a phone call, video voice chat, etc.), please call or email any of the following on the management team: Terrence Smith, Lynn Cover, Winsome Smith, Joe Paiva, Renata Paiva, Josh McClement, or Sharon Tam.
As we continue to follow Jesus, let us live in the love of Christ who promises to be with us always. Let us follow His example of love and service. Let us remember to wash our hands but also to look for opportunities to wash each other’s feet.
With love and prayers,
Terrence, Winsome, Lynn, Joe, Renate, Josh, Henry & Sharon
